Natural response to
man-made trouble

Inspired by my experiences as a European civil servant, Schuman & Monnet is an absurdist post-homeopathic brand, offering natural remedies designed to alleviate the European Union’s many moral, politic, and economic ailments. Schuman & Monnet project was part of the Imagine Europe exhibition at the Bozar Center for Fine Arts in Brussel in 2016.

FOUNDER AND CREATIVE LEAD

Currently offering twenty-four genuine products spanning six ranges, all of which can be purchased online, this original enterprise blurs the lines between ironic branding exercise, bona-fide art project, and commercial venture.

In 1950, Robert Schuman, Jean Monnet, and ten European statesmen embarked on an ambitious project, designed to foster peace, prosperity, and stability in shaky post-war Europe. Schuman + Monnet aims to bring the values of these founding fathers back into the open and to help European leaders, institutional staff, and ordinary citizens keep them alive.

Part serious, part humorous, the Schuman + Monnet brand deserved a strong and diginified look-and-feel, ready to stretch in either direction. Retro pharmaceutical packaging, ethereal photographs, and luxurious canvas bags are offset by bold type, modernist colour codes, and playful captions.

All formulations obey traditional herbal principles, and products are manufactured from European-sourced ingredients. Each preparation features one unique constituent that confers it the properties it claims. Homeopathy is the crux of a lively debate about the usefulness and effectiveness of natural medication. Shouldn’t we raise the similar questions about the European project?
